wednesday is beginning to be one of my favorite days of the week. an afternoon at threadbear w/ some good knitting peeps is great therapy for the winter blahs. thanks to sharon, laura, emily, jean, eleanor, kristi, sarita, wendy, darlene et al for an especially entertaining and fun day yesterday. thanks too, to matt, rob and sabrina along w/ the other staff at the store who put up w/ our shenanigans. i did forget to bring my knitting........left it home on the kitchen counter along w/ my trusty debit card, but i had a back up card and they stock lots of great yarn and needles so i was saved.
ella brought her mom for another appearence at threadbear, you can see how excited she was!
picture #1 is a top down hat i got from a blog, (ahhh, i can't remember which one, i am soooo sorry. when i find it i will post it.) i obviously screwed up somewhere and only a huge conehead could wear this one. picture #2--off to the frog pond and out the other side. it will become a 2x2 rib hat from yesterday's post.
more centurion bouton d'or in brown for one 2x2 rib hat for christmas gifting. all the browns in these pictures are much darker than they appear.
gray woolease in 2x2 rib for scarf and hat for my brother and cardinal red bouton d'on centurion for a bias knit scarf for the wife of one of the doctors who works at our clinic.
i just got a phone call from son #1. he is a long distance hiker who has hiked the appalachian trail from cape gaspe, quebec to the florida keys and is currently hiking the pacific crest trail from vancouver, british colombia to southern tip of california. he always has stories of trail magic and today was no exception. he was coming into a town and needed information about how far he was from his destination. two police cars were parked close by and although he usually doesn't approach them because he looks and smells suspicious, and in order to protect and serve, they usually ask him lots of questions, this time he did. he got the info he wanted and started to walk away.
the trooper asked, "what's your name?"
son #1 think "here it comes" and tells him.
"what's your last name?"
son #1 tells him, thinking how long is this going to last.
the trooper says "hello, cousin."
it turns out to be his cousin whom he hasn't seen in many years. they spent a few minutes catching up and then both moved on.
i love stories about the connections we have and how they sometimes turn up unexpectedly.
next post will have more pictures of christmas knitting-to-be.
the beginning of the vivian hoxbro sweater. trip trap, purchased at threadbear a couple months age. i have started this a couple of times. i have this reading disability, you see, i tend to skim over details then when the sweater doesn't look right,
i reread and duh, an important step was overlooked. the colors are a little different from the picture, what looks beige is really a lovely early spring green, and the light tan is an even lighter green. it is modular knitting and fun to do. the website is www.harrisville.com/html/vivian/html
( i hope the link works, i'm still a novice at this.)
and what post would be complete w/o an ella picture. here she is on her first visit to grammy's house wearing a grammy sweater.
here is some knitting NOT for babies.
knitting pure and simple top down raglan v-neck using philosphers wool. completed last year. very warm and a good wear for those times in michigan when you really don't want or need a winter coat.
a close up of the pattern, i alternated stockinette w/ garter stitch. this is a very well written pattern.
using my left over sweater yarn, i am making the modern baby blanket from mason-dixon knitting. it's good mindless knitting for when i'm either too tired or too distracted to think. i like philosphers wool, while a little rough when knitting, it is wonderful when washed. i also have to use addi turbos, it just doesn't slide off the bamboo needles and was causing me some serious wrist pain issues.
yesterday was good knitting wednesday at threadbear. a great group of knitters, good conversation, lots of chuckles, and even a few guffaws. matt and rob, thanks for hosting us every week. we love you guys, oh yes we do, we love you guys, oh yes we do...................
i will leave you w/ todays quote from a word a day. (i don't yet know how to link, but if you are interested in awad you can do a google search.) this succintly states my life philosophy.
