of zipper sewing....................geez, people, what did you think it was gonna be?
after it was knitted, i crocheted 2 rows of single crochet all along the opening in the back. then i measured the opening and picked the zipper length closest to the length of the opening. i used an 18 inch but could have used a 16 inch and just stretched the opening a bit. then i pinned it carefully w/ safety pins, i could have hand basted w/ thread but i was feeling lazy. then i used the same color thread as the zipper, the peach color and hand sewed it using a back stitch. and there ya have it, folks, the down and dirty sue method of puttin' in a zipper.
here she is in bambina made from colinette giotto. it only takes one skein and is easy as pie. purchased, where else, threadbear. the pattern was free w/ purchase of yarn.
here she is, my little russian nesting doll, wearing one of my favorite baby sweaters, a zip up the back hoodie. it this pic it's not quite finished but it is now and she's been wearing it for those daily trips over the highway and through the fog to grammy's house. all week i have been trying to post this and every time it gets rejected. so instead of the link to this sweater i am going to just tell you to google one piece baby sweater and that should take you there. it's knit from the top down, beginning w/ the hood. i made it from 2 strands held together of safran, which made it a worsted weight, less than 2 balls of each color. i did many of these in the 80's for friends, thought i'd lost the pattern but thanks to the internet, i have it again! if you have trouble leave me a comment and i will try to help you find it.
is that a face or what?! at four months old now, she has a wonderful personality and she and grammy just love taking naps on the couch together. we are just a bit concerned about her little finger, tho. we're not sure she's getting enough blood to it what with all the people she has wrapped around it!
rae had a sale this week on cotton and cotton blends so off i went to get some nice linen/cotton blend to make a grammy tee for summer. after i finish the mason-dixon cotton bibs for ella, that is.
testing
ok, folks, this is gonna be a political rant of the liberal, anti-g.w.bush kind. if you like what i write, bless ya. if you don't.....be respectful. it's my blog and i will write what i want to. (w/ apologies to lesley gore, hey, do ya think she could be related to al??)
first some background.
i was born on the very same day ethel and julius rosenberg were executed (june 19, 1953.) i was 10 through 15 when the john, martin, and bobby were assassinated and the civil rights war was being fought. i was pregnant w/ my first child (a son) when the troops were coming home from vietnam, a young mother when "he" was not a crook, and a nursing student in chemistry class when i heard we had begun the first gulf war. whether it's nurture or nature i have not trusted our government for a long time.
now the rant.
i didn't like it when george ran the first time and i hated it when he was elected yet a second time.
i think he is a clueless rich boy who is not able to see beyond his own nose wallet. i won't even go into what i think of cheney.
he sent thousands of men and women to "defend america" and retaliate for 9-11 (no matter that osama bin laden was the master mind behind 9-11.). if you didn't support the war you were unpatriotic and uncaring about the troops. well, folks, that's WHY i didn't support the war, BECAUSE i cared about the people who would be fighting this hellish war and their families, and i care about our country.
we've seen news reports about the lack of adequate equipment to fight the war and about soldiers being deployed not just once but two or three times. we've seen stories about the difficulties families face when one or both parents are deployed, not to mention the beating our nation's image has taken.
now we discover our injured troops are not even getting decent medical care. i am enraged. do we support the troops by putting fucking red, white and blue and yellow ribbons on our cars or by demanding they get first rate care for their war related injuries, physical AND emotional??
it is a sin what has happened to the troops.
while i wouldn't walk across the street to hear george speak, i want his ear for just 5 minutes. george, get off your rich, little, lily-white ass and support the troops you have sent to fight your war in iraq. give them the best damn medical care this country has to offer, treat their physical AND emotional injuries, give their families the financial and moral support they need while their loved ones are away and in the meantime get us the fucking hell out of there. to do any less than that is truly unpatriotic and unsupportive of the troops.
